The Australian Industrial Chemicals Introduction Scheme (AICIS) has reminded industrial chemical importers and manufacturers of their reporting obligations following the end of the 2025–26 registration year. Annual declarations must be submitted by 30 November 2026, while certain businesses may also need to submit a post-introduction declaration (PID) by the same deadline.
Annual Declaration
Every industrial chemical importer or manufacturer registered with the AICIS must submit an annual declaration for each registration year in which they introduced chemicals for commercial purposes. This includes businesses importing finished products containing industrial chemicals, such as cosmetics and cleaning products.
The annual declaration confirms that all industrial chemicals imported or manufactured during the previous AICIS registration year (1 September 2025 to 31 August 2026) were authorised under the Industrial Chemicals Act 2019.
When submitting the declaration through AICIS Business Services, businesses must indicate which of the six AICIS introduction categories applied to their introductions: listed, exempted, reported, assessed, commercial evaluation authorisation, or exceptional circumstance introductions.
The annual declaration is a separate obligation from AICIS registration and must be submitted by 30 November 2026.
Post-Introduction Declarations for Exempted Introductions
Businesses may also need to submit a post-introduction declaration if they introduced certain chemicals under the exempted category for the first time during the 2025–26 registration year.
A PID is required for first-time introduction of:
- Polymers of low concern (PLCs)
- Low-concern biological polymers
- Chemicals categorised as very low risk for human health and the environment.
The PID is a one-off requirement for the relevant chemical introductions and is separate from the annual declaration. The deadline for PIDs covering the 2025–26 registration year is 30 November 2026.
