Thailand’s Label Committee has revised the categories of consumer products subject to controlled-labelling requirements under the Consumer Protection Act. The development may affect manufacturers, importers, distributors and retailers responsible for placing covered products on the Thai market.

The specific obligations depend on the product category included in the final notification. Potential requirements may concern Thai-language product descriptions, safety warnings, instructions for use and the identity of the responsible business.

Labelling Implications

Businesses should review whether their products fall within the definitions adopted by the Label Committee. Product names, claims, warnings and instructions should be checked for accuracy and consistency with supporting technical documentation.

Where a product contains hazardous components, additional warnings or safe-use instructions may be required by the applicable category-specific rules. Companies should avoid applying requirements from one product group to another without checking the official schedule.

Implementation Considerations

Manufacturers and importers should obtain the final Royal Gazette text and identify the effective date and transitional provisions. Existing stock and products already placed on the market may be subject to separate sell-through arrangements.

The complete official product schedule has not been independently mapped. Product-specific compliance conclusions should therefore wait until the relevant notification and its annexes have been reviewed.
