On 1 June 2026, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) issued a wide circulation draft for the revision of Plastics Feeding Bottles – Specification, prepared by the Plastics Packaging Technical Committee (PCD 21). The proposed revision aims to update the standard and strengthen the quality and safety requirements for plastic feeding bottles.
Comments and suggestions from stakeholders are invited until 31 July 2026.
Background
Feeding bottles are regulated under BIS certification requirements to ensure infant safety and product quality. In light of growing concerns regarding Bisphenol A (BPA) and Bisphenol S (BPS), the draft prohibits the use of materials such as polycarbonate (PC) and polyethersulfone (PES) in the production of plastic feeding bottles. The revision aligns the standard with current safety practices and international regulatory trends.
Scope
This standard sets out the requirements and methods of sampling and testing for plastic feeding bottles.
Key Revisions
Modified definitions of accessories and feeding bottles.
Added requirements and instructions for squeezable feeding bottles designed for infants with cleft lip or palate.
Revised time and temperature conditions for overall migration testing.
Incorporated amendments made to the previous version of the standard.
