Argentina’s health regulator, ANMAT, has updated its national cosmetics regulations in line with MERCOSUR guidelines, specifically removing several substances from the list of chemicals prohibited in personal care products, cosmetics, and perfumes.
The changes were detailed in the annex to Resolution GMC No. 07/25, which amends the earlier Resolution GMC No. 62/14. The third part of the annex specifically addresses substances that are no longer restricted, reflecting a reassessment of their safety under typical usage conditions.
These adjustments are intended to streamline compliance for manufacturers and allow the continued use of these substances under controlled conditions, while maintaining consumer safety. ANMAT has set timelines for reformulating previously registered products to reflect the updated list.
The update underscores Argentina’s commitment to evidence-based regulation and regional harmonization, ensuring that consumer products are safe while also avoiding unnecessary restrictions that could hinder product innovation.
