Chemical inventory Amendment Industrial Chemicals Chemical Notification

South Korea’s Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment has issued a draft amendment to the Existing Chemicals Inventory under the Act on Registration and Evaluation of Chemicals (K-REACH). The proposal would restore the original chemical identities of substances that had previously been listed under generic names after the confidentiality protection periods expired.

136 Chemical Entries to Be Updated

According to the draft notice, the Ministry plans to revise 136 chemical entries for which the data protection period has expired. Once finalized, the substances currently identified by generalized names will be updated to their original chemical names in the official inventory.

CAS Number and Substance Name Corrections

The amendment also introduces corrections to previously published entries. Two substances will receive newly assigned CAS numbers along with revised chemical names that align with CAS Index nomenclature. Additionally, one existing entry identified under the unique number KE-03115 will be corrected.

Substance number 2010-3-4455 will be updated with CAS No. 918866-78-1, while substance number 2011-3-5317 will be revised to 1,1'-[(Methylamino)di-2,1-ethanediyl] bis [4-(dimethyl amino) benzoate] with CAS No. 925246-00-0.

Wide Range of Industrial Chemicals Affected

The draft includes numerous substances whose generic names will be replaced with specific chemical identities. The affected entries cover polymers, siloxanes, fluorinated compounds, acrylates, titanium complexes, and other specialty industrial chemicals used in coatings, electronics, plastics, and related applications.

Additional Administrative Changes

The amendment would also revise Article 4 of the notification by changing the date ‘July 1, 2020’ to ‘July 1, 2026’ and replacing ‘December 31’ with ‘June 30’. The Ministry stated that the revised notification would enter into force on the date of promulgation.
