Renewal Applications Expiry Date Postponement Biocidal Products Active Substance Approval (BPR) Active Substances

On 26 May 2026, the UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE) announced the first group of active substance/product-type combinations whose approval expiry dates have been postponed under recent amendments to the GB Biocidal Products Regulation (GB BPR). The published table identifies 105 such combinations that have already met the postponement requirements and now have their expiry dates extended to 31 July 2031.

These postponements follow the entry into force of the Chemicals (Health and Safety) (Amendment, Consequential and Transitional Provision) Regulations 2026 on 21 May 2026. Under the amended provisions, active substance/product-type combinations with accepted renewal applications may have their approval expiry dates postponed if they would otherwise expire between 23 June 2026 and 30 July 2031.

105 Combinations Already Granted Postponements

According to the HSE, the amendments could affect up to 173 active substance/product-type combinations. The HSE confirmed that 105 combinations have already met the relevant requirements and had their expiry dates postponed to 31 July 2031. The published list covers a range of biocidal uses, including insecticides, wood preservatives, rodenticides and antifouling products.

Further Postponements Expected

HSE noted that the published table does not represent a complete list of all expiry date postponements in Great Britain. Additional active substance/product-type combinations may be added as further renewal applications are submitted and accepted.

Stakeholders can consult the HSE active substance expiry postponements page and the GB BPR active substance list for the latest information on affected substances and expiry dates.
