Chesar Platform Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR) EU REACH Chemical Risk Assessment

On 2 June 2026, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) announced the launch of the first version of the Chesar Platform, a new cloud-based application for conducting and reporting chemical risk assessments under REACH and the Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR).

Replacing Existing Assessment Tools

The Chesar Platform brings together ECHA's existing Chesar and EUSES tools in a single platform. It will gradually replace the current Chesar 3 tool, EUSES 2.2.0 and ECHA's Excel-based calculation tools used for biocides. According to ECHA, the platform provides a structured workflow for chemical risk assessments, integrates exposure estimation tools and supports harmonised reporting. It also enables easier updates to assessments through automatic recalculation and report generation.

ECHA's user manual states that the platform combines the functions previously provided by Chesar and EUSES and is intended to become ECHA's main tool for chemical risk assessments under REACH and BPR. It can generate Chemical Safety Reports (CSRs) and exposure scenarios, while also supporting the exchange of substance information with IUCLID.

Updated Scientific Models and One-Year Transition

The platform incorporates updated exposure assessment models and the latest scientific developments for both REACH and biocides assessments. ECHA notes that future scientific updates will only be made available through the Chesar Platform, and it encourages users to begin migrating their assessments to the new system.

To support the transition, the current Chesar 3 tool will remain available for approximately one year to allow users to familiarise themselves with the new system and migrate their existing assessments.

The Chesar Platform is available via ECHA Cloud Services. On 2 June 2026 ECHA hosted a webinar introducing its main functionalities and the migration process.
