Moldova’s restrictions on hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment (RoHS) will enter into force on 10 October 2026. The new Technical Regulation sets out limits for substances and compliance obligations for manufacturers, importers and distributors of covered equipment on the Moldovan market.

This measure is part of Moldova’s broader alignment of its product legislation with European Union requirements. Approved by Government Decision No. 643/2025 and published on 10 October 2025, the Regulation transposes the EU’s RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU, as amended by Delegated Directive (EU) 2024/1416. It covers a broad range of electrical and electronic equipment, subject to specified exclusions and exemptions.

Restricted Substances and Obligations

The Regulation limits lead, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls, polybrominated diphenyl ethers and four phthalates (DEHP, BBP, DBP and DIBP) to a maximum concentration of 0.1% by weight in homogeneous materials. The limit for cadmium is 0.01%. Exemptions for specified applications are listed in the Regulation’s annexes.

Manufacturers must ensure that their products comply with the restrictions and prepare the necessary technical documentation and declaration of conformity. Importers and distributors must verify compliance before placing equipment on the Moldovan market and take corrective action where non-compliance is identified.

Certain provisions concerning conformity assessment and market surveillance will enter into force when the law ratifying the Agreement on Conformity Assessment and Acceptance of Industrial Products between Moldova and the European Union takes effect.
