Indian Cosmetic products are regulated under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940 and Rules 1945 and Labelling Declarations by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). The main objective of the Drug Act is to ensure that the drugs and cosmetics sold in India are safe, effective, and conform to prescribed quality standards. Even though the act came into force in 1940, it has been amended many times. The latest amendment was made in 2019.
