PFAS USA-EPA Inventory Chemical Reporting Requirements human health Environmental and Health Risk Management

On February 23, 2026, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has finalized a rule requiring industries to report releases of sodium perfluorohexanesulfonate (PFHxS-Na). This chemical is now part of the Toxics Release Inventory (TRI), a national database that tracks toxic emissions and pollution prevention.

Reporting Requirements

Businesses must begin monitoring PFHxS-Na starting January 1, 2026, with initial reports due by July 1, 2027. As a chemical of special concern, PFHxS-Na has a stricter reporting threshold of 100 pounds, ensuring even small releases are disclosed.

Community Impact

EPA officials emphasized that the rule enhances transparency, giving communities access to vital information about local chemical use. With this addition, the TRI now tracks 206 PFAS substances, reflecting growing concern about their persistence in the environment and potential health risks.
